Frequently Asked Questions

What is the campus bookstore era?
We use the term for the period when college apparel was commonly produced on substantial athletic blanks from brands such as Russell Athletic, Champion and Nike Team. These were practical garments made for everyday wear, but the right school, graphic and color combination gave them an identity beyond the campus. Our collection is focused on vintage collegiate apparel from the 1980s through the early 2000s.
What kinds of vintage college apparel do you carry?
Vintage college sweatshirts and hoodies make up most of the collection. We also carry collegiate t-shirts, pullover windbreakers, half-zips, jackets and sweatpants. You can shop by school or go directly to the vintage collegiate sweatshirts collection if you already know what you are looking for.
Which colleges and universities do you carry?
Ohio State, Vanderbilt, Tennessee, UNC, Notre Dame, Michigan, Alabama and other major programs appear regularly. The collection also includes regional universities, small colleges and schools that are rarely represented in vintage stores. Recognition matters, but it is not the only consideration. A remarkable mascot, type treatment or school palette can make an unfamiliar program more compelling than a predictable piece from a nationally known one.
What brands made vintage college sweatshirts?
Russell Athletic, Champion and Nike Team are central to the collection. We also carry collegiate apparel from Jerzees, Gear for Sports, Nutmeg Mills, Starter, Jansport, Adidas and Reebok when the garment is right. Each brand approached weight, proportion and construction differently, which is part of what gives these pieces their character.
What makes a vintage collegiate piece worth carrying?
The complete garment has to work. We consider the graphic, school colors, blank, silhouette, construction and condition together. A familiar university name is not enough on its own. We would rather find an exceptional mascot print from a small program than a generic wordmark from a school everyone already knows.
How do you date vintage collegiate apparel?
The blank provides the starting point. We examine the brand label, care label, country of manufacture, stitching, construction and graphic application. Details such as a Russell Athletic eagle tag, Champion script tag or Nike Team label can establish a general period. The rest of the garment helps narrow it. Every listing states the brand and estimated era so you know what you have found.
Is this official college merchandise?
We look for original collegiate apparel produced under the licensing and manufacturing standards of its period. Labels, university marks and construction are inspected before a garment is listed. We do not carry modern reproductions presented as vintage. If the origin or age of a piece cannot be supported, we do not describe it more specifically than the evidence allows.
Why does vintage college apparel often feel heavier?
Many period sweatshirts were made with dense fleece, substantial ribbing and durable athletic construction. That weight gives a crewneck or hoodie its shape and changes how it sits on the body. Not every older sweatshirt is exceptional simply because it is old. Fabrication, construction and condition still determine whether it belongs in the collection.
How does vintage collegiate apparel fit?
Many vintage college sweatshirts have a wide, boxy silhouette, but sizing varies by brand, garment and era. A tagged large does not reliably correspond to one modern size. Every listing includes the chest and length measured flat. Compare those measurements with a garment you already wear rather than relying on the size tag alone.
What condition should I expect?
Every piece is graded and photographed individually. Softened fleece, fading and a naturally worn print can add to the garment without compromising it. Stains, holes, stretched collars, damaged ribbing and other structural flaws are disclosed clearly. The goal is to preserve the character of an older garment while making its actual condition easy to understand.
Can you find a particular school or year?
We do not currently take formal sourcing requests, but you can message us with the school, year, team or garment you are looking for. If something relevant enters the collection, we can point you toward it. Inventory changes continuously, and every piece is individual. If your school is here, you have found it.
